Proposal: The Pale Green Pants By Dr Suess

Interpretation & Adaption Notes:

Paranormal/Possession Themed

• The pants were owned by a man who had died in the 1980’s.
• The haunted man is trying to find a way back to the earth plane, as if the pants are a door way from the dead to then haunt the living. (Reference from Insidious)
• These pants have tried to claim multiple victims however it has been unsuccessful in doing so in the past.
• The boy who finds the pants is young and naive, in which spirits tend to befriend due to innocence. Hence why many children claim they have seen spirits/ghosts but are never really scared.
• The boy sets off at night to go to the shop which is two doors down but just next to the shop there is a forest/green area where the pants are.
• Once the boy see’s/finds the pants, he hears the mans voice tempting him to come over towards the pants.
• The boy responds and asks questions such as “Hello, is anyone there?” & “Who are you” as he is intrigued.
• The pants speak to the boy, whispering “try me on”, “Green is your favourite colour” & “Go on” in a creepy and sadistic voice.
• Once the boy tries on the pants he feels as though something is trying to take over him. He then tries to take off the pants but it won’t unbutton.
• The boy starts screaming and the man then appears as if he is attached to the pants and is fighting to take control of the body as if the spirit/soul is trying to leave the body. While this is happening, the man is saying that he needs to come back to the living, he has unfinished business and the boy is his only way. (Creepy music gets increasing louder and more intense a this happens)
• The man eventually over powers the boy. The boy’s facial expressing changes (eyes widen, with less emotion) and now has the man’s voice, “Right, here I come”

Short Story Version:

During the night, he took a trip hoping not to see anything scary in sight.

So to the shop he went, with a pound and two pence.

Under the darkness of light, nearby was a fright.

The pants were pale, the pants were green

The boy said these are the nicest green pants I’ve seen

Try me on, don’t leave me here

I’ve been trying to come back for years

Once I left I couldn’t come back

But if you try me on I can do exactly that
I will try you on, you seem really nice

Thank you but now I own your life
